Richard "Dick" Wilcox Lowe

Born December 3, 1925 at Berkley-Norfolk, Virginia, Richard returned to his dear Savior in Heaven on September 3rd, 2019 at the age of 93.  Predeceased by his parents, Walter Jacob Lowe and Gladis Haywood Lowe, his sister Doris Geraldine Lowe, and his son Christopher Barry Lowe (Naomi).

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene Ferguson Lowe, brother Walter Leonard Lowe (Jean Frances) of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, and three children, Stephen Lowe (Tammy) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Sharon LeBuffe (Frank) of Knoxville Tennessee, and Richard Lowe, Jr (Nevine) of Vienna, Virginia.

During the great WWII Richard volunteered and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought bravely and gallantly at Iwo Jima in defense of this country and its way of life. Returning from the war, Richard attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI / Virginia Tech) studying Electrical Engineering and Computers. Using that education, he was actively involved during his long career in creating the electronic defense that protected this country.  

While at Virginia Tech he met the love of his life, Irene Ferguson, who was attending Radford College at the same time. They were married in September 1950. Over the next 69 years Richard and Irene together raised a family of 4 children, 8 grandchildren (Greg, Jacob, Martha, Brooke, Emily, Natalie, Alex and Nick), and many great grandchildren. Richard was a loving father, husband, and grandfather. 

We remember that Richard preserved the great values of this country, in war and peace, so that his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many others might have better lives than he did. Richard will be interred at the Quantico National Cemetery with military funeral honors as he wished. A grateful nation and a grateful family mourn the passing of this great man who sacrificed so much to help others.  He will be missed and forever loved by his family.
