Lorraine Tomasulo passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2020 in Arlington VA. Lorraine was born on August 29. 1933 to Anton and Rose Gousen. She was raised in Weehawken New Jersey and lived in Wood-Ridge and Hasbrouck Heights NJ until 1995. She worked at Lipton Tea Company for over 40 years, where she met her future husband, Vincent Tomasulo. They married in 1972, and Lorraine was thrilled to become a mother to Vinnie’s son Vin Jr. Their home in Hasbrouck Heights NJ was the center of holiday celebrations and parties with family and friends. Lorraine loved cooking -- she was famous for her large trays of lasagna, and Vinnie loved having barbeques in the summer.
After Lorraine and Vinnie retired, they moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina in 1995. They enjoyed walking on the beach, playing golf and mahjong, making many new friends, and having family and old friends visit.
After 10 years of happy retired life, Lorraine’s beloved husband passed away suddenly in 2005. Though devastated by this loss, Lorraine carried on, and she became involved in other activities and organizations. She volunteered at Brookgreen Gardens, a large botanical and sculpture garden in nearby Murrels Inlet, SC, from 2007 to 2015. Her name was added to their “Wall of Honor” in recognition of volunteering over 250 hours each year. She was also an active member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Lorraine was an adventurous traveler, taking trips with friends to Egypt, China, and Morocco among other destinations. She also loved gardening, music, dancing, being with children, and most of all being with her large family.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, her husband Vinnie, and her sister Vivian. She is survived by her son Vin Jr in Colorado, grandson Anthony in New Mexico, granddaughter Sarah in California, sister Gladys in New Jersey, brother Sam and his wife Sally in Virginia, and almost 3 dozen nephews and nieces over 3 generations.
A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held in the future when it is safe to do so.
