Charles F. Long, 107, of Sycamore, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, at home.


Born Oct. 12, 1913, in North Platte, Neb., the son of Charles C. and Sophie (Steel) Long, Charles married Mary Maxine Haney on Nov. 24, 1945, in Lincoln, Neb.

A veteran of the US Army, where he achieved the rank of Major during World War II, he served in the ordnance division, and in the African campaign as ammunition officer at Heliopolis, Casablanca, and later at Naples, Italy. Charles was a superintendent for US Steel for many years.

Charles is survived by his children, Charles W. Long of Houston, Texas, Martin H. Long of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mary Jane Luttrell of Cape Coral, Fla; grandchildren, Charles Thomas Long of Houston, Angelisa (Scott) Troy of DeKalb; and great-grandchildren, Allison Troy and Nathan Troy. He was predeceased by his parents and wife Mary in 2008

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.
